Edamame
New introduction!
Edamame (ed·a·ma·me ˌɛdəˈmɑːmeɪ), also known as green soybean, is one of the few plant-based source of complete protein commonly eaten.
Our body needs different types of amino acids to function properly and can manufacture all but 9 of the 22 amino acids that make up proteins. These 9 amino acids are known as “essential” amino acids, and therefore must be derived from what we eat. In order to be considered “complete,” a protein must contain all 9 of these essential amino acids. Almost all animal-based foods (meat, egg, dairy, etc) contain complete proteins, while most plant-based foods are incomplete. Besides being a complete protein, Edamame is also a cholesterol-free source of protein!
